Which Coffee Machine is better for the environment?
September 22, 2009 by: Admin
A Keurig one-cup coffee maker or an old-fashioned Mr. Coffee machine? Probably about 10 cups a day are drank in the office.
While the Keurig only powers up for each cup, it does keep water heated within it for preparation. It also uses disposable K-cups for each use.
The Mr. Coffee brews the 10 cups all at once, but would be left on for 8 hours straight. Disposed of would be one paper filter. (Or, perhaps for freshness, two brews would take place.)
In any case, which is better for the environment?

I like my Mr. Coffee. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the Keurig, that they don’t last long enough for the money they cost. If you are unfortunate enough to have it go out after the warranty is up, the only thing you can do is throw it out and that in itself fills up the landfills. Based on that alone, Mr. Coffee is better for the environment. I’ve had mine for about 10 yrs.
The environment is fine. Buy whatever you want.
